Budget cruise company Classic International Cruises has consolidated its 08/09 summer season in Australia by announcing 16 new itineraries departing out of Adelaide and Fremantle on their cruise ship Athena. These cruise itineraries on the 650 passenger vessel will replace cruises around Australia originally planned for their other ships Funchal and Princess Daphne. Those guests who already have bookings on the Princess Daphne in place are to be offered free flights to Perth as the seven cruises originally planned for her were out of Sydney whereas Funchal guests will be offered similar grades of cabin on Athena at no extra cost.
Rising fuel costs are to blame for this move as to move two cruise ships from Europe to Australia at the same time would prove extremely costly.
